Road mobility has a high price in terms of human lives: in 2012, almost 26.000 persons lost their lives in road accidents in Europe.
In the USA this figure has topped the 32.000 mark in the last few years and road accidents are worldwide the primary cause of death of the population up to the age of 24.

Transport planners, city administrators and policy makers have  the mission to increase safety for all road users.
Besides infrastructural investments, experts agree that the primary way to achieve this goal is to take off the road a significant number of private vehicles.

The less cars we have on the road, the less car accidents will occur.
If we have less cars on the road, more public space can be allocated to safer bicycle lanes and pedestrian areas.
A mobility on-demand solution can greatly contribute to the reduction of circulating cars on the road, while increasing life quality of citizen.
This is the first step towards „Vision Zero“ (no fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic), but to achieve this highly ambitious goal, it is necessary to implement every single measure that can contribute to it.

What can MVMANT do to further increase safety on the road?
It is always useful to remember that driver distraction is a leading cause of accidents.
Several studies indicate that 80 to 90% of crashes involve some form of driver distraction.
By employing professional drivers, human error due to lack of experience, haste, high speed, DUI, etc, can be greatly reduced.

While it is impossible to completely eliminate driver distraction, the correct in-vehicle technology can further minimize this problem and improve safety.
For example a big incentive to safe driving is provided by driver behavior monitoring system.
The GPS device, coupled with the vehicle telemetry, tracks information such as position, speed, instances of hard braking, etc.
Speed thresholds can be set and and real-time alerts can be triggered when a driver surpasses the threshold.
Since the best is just good enough for MVMANT, our fleet will implement all available in-vehicle technologies to offer the highest level of safety:

Attention Assist: it detects signs of inattention and warns the driver to take a break.

Collision Prevention Assist: it monitors continuously the distance to the preceeding vehicles and warns visually and acoustically from a possible collision. If the collision is imminent, it also increases the braking force and helps to prevent the impact.

Blind spot assistant: it detects vehicles coming up in the blind spot and, if the turn signal is on, it alerts not to change lanes.

Adaptive brake lights: The adaptive brake lights warn vehicles behind by flashing rapidly in the event of sharp braking. The hazard warning lights are also activated automatically in emergency braking situations. In this way, following traffic can react more quickly and the risk of an accident can be reduced.

In conclusion: maintaining the safety of drivers, passengers and all road users, is one of the top priorities of every city administration and mobility manager.
MVMANT can be a great asset to increase immediately road safety and quality of life in cities, without the need of any infrastructural investment, by taking off the road a significant number of private vehicles, contributing immediately in the reduction of the number of accidents and the consequent costs, both in economical and social terms.
